Troubleshooting
My domain isn't working
Your custom domain says it's waiting, stopped, or shows an error. What to check.
- "Waiting for your DNS records": DNS changes can take up to a few hours (rarely, a day or two). Wait, then choose Check now.
- Check the TXT record. Its name must be what the page shows (starting with
_perfectpal), and its value exactly the code shown, with no spaces or quotes added. Many providers add your domain to the name for you: if you typed the whole name, it may now read_perfectpal.www.yourname.com.yourname.com. Fix it to what the page shows. - Check the CNAME. For
www, it must point to the address the page shows, and there must be no other record (an A record, or an old website's CNAME) forwww. - Bare domain? It can't use a plain CNAME. See Bare domains, or switch to www.
- "Stopped": your records went missing for a few days. Put them back, then Check now.
- The page shows another site: your old website host may still be answering. Remove the old records for that name.
- Security warning in the browser: the secure connection is set up once the records check out; give it a few minutes after it says Live.
- Did your plan change? Custom domains depend on your plan.
