White-bellied caiques are bold, bouncy clowns of the parrot world. They play hard, love to bathe and wrestle, and need lots of toys, daily time out and consistent handling.

Play and handling

Caiques are very active and can nip when excited. Short, regular handling sessions and plenty of play outlets help. They're usually best kept as the only caique with people, or carefully supervised with others.

With good care many live 25 to 40 years or more, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.

Housing

A cage at least 60 by 60 cm with 1.3 to 1.9 cm bar spacing, lots of toys to rotate, and a bath several times a week.

Diet

A quality pellet with vegetables and some fruit, which caiques especially enjoy.
