Senegal parrots are small, clever and playful parrots with a quieter voice than most. They're a popular first parrot for a patient owner.

Personality

Poicephalus parrots are quieter than most parrots of their size, playful and good for apartments. Some become a one-person bird; regular handling by everyone in the home helps.

With good care many live 25 to 40 years, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.

Housing

A cage at least 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep with 1.3 to 1.9 cm bar spacing, foraging toys, and a few hours out of the cage every day.

Diet

A quality pellet with plenty of vegetables and some fruit. Limit seeds and nuts, which these birds love and can overeat.
