Pacific parrotlet care
- Typical lifespan
- 15–20 years
- Size
- Small
- Noise level
- Quiet
Parrotlets are tiny parrots with a lot of confidence. They're quiet, but they need daily handling to stay tame.
Lifespan
Typically 15 to 20 years.
Company and handling
Daily, gentle handling keeps a parrotlet friendly. They can be territorial, so supervise them closely around other birds, including larger ones.
Housing
A cage with bar spacing of about 1 cm (3/8 to 1/2 inch) and lots of toys. They're small enough to slip through gaps, so check the room carefully before letting them out.
Diet
Small-parrot pellets or seed mix, with fresh vegetables and greens daily.
Noise
Low. A good choice for apartments, with soft chirps rather than screams.
