Java sparrows are sleek, calm finches with soft calls. They're hardy and sociable, and many become quite tame.
Company
Keep them in pairs or small groups: a single finch is lonely. They aren't handled like parrots and prefer not to be held.
They usually live 7 to 10 years.
Housing
A flight cage wider than it is tall, at least 75 cm long, with bar spacing of 1.3 cm or less so they can fly. Several perches, a shallow bath and a draught-free spot.
Diet
A finch seed mix or pellet with greens, a little egg food, and a cuttlebone for calcium, especially when they're breeding.
