Fischer's lovebirds are small, energetic parrots that bond closely. They're busy, chatty and need daily attention or the company of another lovebird.
Company
Lovebirds can be kept alone if you spend a lot of time with them each day, or in pairs, which tend to bond with each other more than with people. Introduce a new bird slowly; lovebirds can be aggressive to birds they don't know.
With good care many live 10 to 15 years or more, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.
Housing
A cage at least 60 cm wide with 1 to 1.3 cm bar spacing suits one or two. They love to chew and shred, so give plenty of safe wood, paper and palm toys, and a shallow dish for bathing.
Diet
A quality small-parrot pellet or seed mix with fresh vegetables and greens every day, and fruit as a treat. Hens may lay eggs even without a mate; extra calcium helps, and an avian vet can advise if she lays a lot.
