Button quail (king quail) are tiny ground birds with gentle calls. They live on the floor of an enclosure and run more than they fly.

Housing

A wide, low enclosure or an aviary floor with deep, soft bedding and hiding places. When startled they flush straight up, so a soft or low roof prevents head injuries.

They usually live 3 to 6 years.

Diet

A game bird crumble or a fine finch mix with some higher-protein food, greens, grit, and oyster shell for laying hens.

Company

Keep one male with one or more females; two males usually fight. They get along with finches in an aviary and tidy up dropped seed.
