Blue-headed pionus parrots are calm, gentle, medium-sized parrots, quieter than Amazons and less demanding than many parrots.

Personality

Pionus parrots are often easygoing and independent. When excited or startled they may wheeze or snort, which is normal for them.

With good care many live 25 to 40 years, so plan for who will care for your bird if your life changes.

Housing

A cage at least 75 cm wide with 1.9 to 2.5 cm bar spacing and daily time out. They can gain weight, so encourage climbing and flying.

Diet

A quality pellet with plenty of vegetables. Pionus need vitamin A from orange and dark green vegetables.
