Care guide
Caring for killifish
Killifish are small and often brilliantly coloured. Many live only a year or two, and some 'annual' species lay eggs that must dry out before they hatch. They suit dedicated species tanks.
Tank
A small, well-planted tank with soft water, gentle filtering and a tight lid (they jump). Many prefer cooler water than tropical community fish.
Eggs and annuals
Annual killifish such as Nothobranchius lay eggs in peat that are stored damp for weeks before hatching. Ask the seller how they ship eggs or fish.
Food
Many killifish prefer live or frozen foods to flakes.
